About the Internship

The Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience (NCMN) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln offers a STEM-based internship program for high school students. Lincoln-area high school students, 16 years or older, can apply. Interns will receive guidance and training in experimental and theoretical techniques in STEM labs at UNL.  

Students applying for multiple summer research programs will be required to participate only in the NCMN High School Internship program, if chosen. 

Applications Due: March 15, 2025
Applicants will be notified of final decisions by Friday, March 28

Program Details

  • Get paid to conduct research in a UNL physics, engineering, or chemistry lab
  • ~8 week session
  • Start date: June 2, 2025
  • Salary: $12/hour
  • 20 hours per week
  • Workday: between 8 - 5, Monday-Friday
  • Final poster presentation required in August
  • Supervisors are UNL faculty and research scientists
  • No prior experience necessary
  • Must be 16 years old as of June 1, 2025
  • Must not have graduated high school (May 2024 graduates are eligible if attending UNL in Fall 2025
  • US citizenship required
  • One teacher reference required by March 15, 2025
